What Have The Beasts Been Up To

Over the last few days the pups have had several car rides, been to a new field, had an over-nighter, played in the basement playroom, learned to do open slated stairs, met a few new dogs, met people while crated in the car, started eating from their own bowls, started going on individual field trips and tonight will start being confined to crates at night.  During their nap (while we were eating dinner) someone did this:
Yes that is the cord I used to use to connect my camera to the computer.  I was in the process of uploading some videos of them playing downstairs today.  I thought I had the cord hidden and not in their line of sight but apparently not.  The computer protected itself and shut down and no puppy had mouth burns so it worked out ok and thank goodness Mom showed me that I have a port for a memory card. There are videos at  http://www.youtube.com/user/drewwrestling?feature=watch.  Not all of them uploaded and somehow I've managed to delete them.  Perhaps that is the puppies' doing.

It's time to get them out for their last time of the night then into crates of two puppies each.  Morning is probably going to come very soon.

Here Until They Go Home

The pups are back with a vengeance!  Yesterday was super busy testing day!  First out with birds with Jean Webb.  Next temperament testing with Lisa Baird.  Finally, conformation evaluation with Peggy Haas.  Still no decisions on who goes where. We'll continue to evaluate over the next week and make some decisions then.  Decisions, decisions!  Such a fun bunch of pups!

We have an extra visitor this week in the form of Daz, Lisa's Portuguese Podengo Pequeno.  The puppies love her and she seems to really enjoy them.  They are going as a group to Wendy's house tonight for an overnighter then coming back in the morning.

Henry has determined that we are keeping a puppy.  Apparently I need to work more :-)

So far so good on the pups.  They look fabulous and having a great time running around here and there and are well on the way to being housebroken.  I think we'll start individual crating Friday night.  Right now they have two open crates in their space overnight and have not had an overnight poop in days. They should be pretty easy for their new owners when there is only one puppy to concentrate on.

5 Weeks Old Today!

Happy 5 weeks old little Gifts of the Gods Poopies! To celebrate they did not get poop on their bed over night!

Sleeping with Momma
We have spent the week concentrating on pottying outside, stairs, trying to get Kai's weight back up a bit and doing some weaning.  We have lad lots of play time with introduction to things moving under their feet like the sit and spin, upside down sled, and  saucer sled which I will make into a swing when they come back.  They have a new friend Bob (see prior posts).  They've done some climbing on the little slide, running through the tunnel, climbing under and over furniture - yes someone did poop on my sheepskin covered ottoman (!!!!!!!!  Really?!?!?!).  They've had some fun with the electronic toys that light up and make noises and of course they've had big man time with Henry and Drew.  Oh and don't forget the tv that is always on too loud...can you hear me?!?!

Cow milkers with rope are cool toys!
Some adjustments will have to be made to the pen I've made for them since I just saw Athena trying out her teeth on the part of the wall I don't have covered.  I've been trying to really "see" them.  Usually by now i can take collars off of everyone and tell who is who.  Not so with this bunch so I have started to do them in pairs.  Frigg and Athena seemed the most different so I started with them.  Now I've got Luna and Iris which isn't the best idea.  After several hours now they are starting to look more different to me.  It's a good exercise in having my eye learn the individual differences in a short time.  They are all pretty similar so it's going slower than usual.  Mom took some pictures yesterday so that may help some as well.

Gimme that sit and spin!  I'm going for a twirl!
They are at 4 meals a day with 2 - 3 nursings from Kai.  She is as thin as a rail but I think we may be at a turning point with the whole supply and demand side of nursing.  She seems to be starting to produce a little less.
Trying out the bouncy slick sled
I've put several videos from today and yesterday on my youtube site.  I have no idea what is on them so if there is anything offensive let me know so i can take them off.  I usually tune out the tv or anyone yelling in the background when I'm taping :-)

They've had several visitors this week ending tonight with Wendy's nephew and great nephew and tomorrow with Susan and Rhoda.  I'll miss them but look forward to the fun when they get back in two weeks!  They will be completely house trained by then right Rhoda?

Playing with cousin Pix
Right now they are listening to a thunder sound track.  Fall puppies don't get too many summer storms.  They also have tried out noisy children noises and construction sounds though they did experience the real thing on garbage day with the trucks going down the street.  They have had the "joy" of Pixie barking at the squirrels she has missed that are then laughing at her from the trees.

Almost time to eat.  This one should have been a video b/c Frigg is screaming her head off!

Quicky Photo Op

Going to do a quick picture load b/c worked last night and have to take a nape before working tonight too.  Tomorrow I'll spend some time doing a nice entry w video too.  Some of these pics are from yesterday.

Visitors today include Fran, Jim, Wendy, and Rhoda (does she actually count as a visitor?)

Day 2

Not a lot of pics from this morning but here is a pic of the run around followed by milk coma.

What preempted this is:  Morning wake up, eating, outside potty time, outside playtime - leaf chasing, stick chewing, stair climbing up and down - more potty time, a lesson in Vizsla Behavior 101 and then warm up inside followed by a milk snack.

What is Vizsla Behavior 101? Whenever a broom in in motion any good Vizsla *must* get in the way! The puppies displayed excellent potential while I cleared the steps and landing of leaves.  Based on their behavior this morning I anticipate that they will graduate quickly to Stop the Poop Scooping and then later Vacuum Interruption with no problem at all!

This is a pic of their sleeping quarters and Roady down stairs time.

Puppies Come for a Visit

The puppies are here for a week!  They are even cuter in person!  It has been two weeks since I've seen them and they have grown like crazy!  Rhoda and I took them outside when they first got here.  I have never seen an entire litter act completely unfazed by this new change of circumstances.  Everyone's tail was up and they just scampered around like they owned the place.  This morning they all came down the stairs with the exception of Hesta who apparently had to go potty one more time.  I was getting cold so I just put her on the bottom step and down she came. This afternoon they all went down on their own with a couple of them jumping as they went just to prove how totally cool they are!

We have had several potties outside so already working on our "get busy" command.

They have had a couple of visitors already.  Yesterday was Wendy, Ed and Lannie (the pups great aunt).  Today my friend Lisa and her pup, Bob, a 4 month old Portuguese Pequena Podengo.

Then of course there was lots of nap time

 Sometimes we napped with mom

Sometimes with great cousin Pixie.
